Advocacy Update
An update on topics the chamber is following was provided by April Wehrs.  At the state level, ITEP is currently shelved by the author, Rogers Pope, but it could be called from the calendar at any time.  HB 681, streamlining of sales tax, has passed the house with a 96-0 vote and heads to the senate. Bills that would raise the minimum wage have been defeated, #311, #229, #472.

Locally, an election held on April 30, 2022 for ½ cent sales tax in the Albany school district was approved by voters and a fire district 4 property tax was approved.  Both are new taxes and succeeded in a low turn out election.  Redistricting for the parish council seats was approved by the parish council sooner than the anticipated May vote.
