Moratorium - Opposition

STATEMENT OF THE LIVINGSTON PARISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

At a regular meeting of the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce’s Governmental Affairs Committee, held on May 19, 2022, with a quorum of board members present, it was directed that the Livingston Parish Chamber offers the following statement.

Be it resolved that the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce:

  • OPPOSES the inclusion of commercial property in the parish wide moratorium.  Commercial development provides revenue streams to the very public services and infrastructure concerns noted.
  • Requests that a quick resolution, prior to the 60 day timeline, is reached to lift the moratorium.
  • Has concerns for the economic impact of this action and the potential disruption in the pipeline of projects in the parish.
  • Observes that small family landowners are impacted by this action as other factors such as rising interest rates make this a timely concern.

As the parish's business association formed to represent business, the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce serves as a convener for leaders and influencers, a catalyst for business growth and a champion for stronger communities.

Ordinances - Impacts - Developments

Don't forget about business.

As local councils and leaders across the I-12 - I-10 corridors are facing pressure in all directions on how to incorporate smart growth into our areas, we want to remind you, don't forget about business.

It's not just the huge developers that are impacted by potential halts to their pipeline of business and cash flow, the local guys, your next door neighbors are business people too. Many have the good of the parish at heart and want a collective approach that includes a seat at the table for everyone.

While we sympathize, and care, about the challenges to infrastructure, drainage, the school system and other important projects - we've supported and had conversations about the urgent needs of every one of these areas for years - the needs and consideration of what it will do to our local economy and business community matters.

We will be hosting an opportunity for businesses to learn more - and provide your input - about what the plans are and what this means to you. Registration is open now. RSVP below.
